How to Compute Gain or Loss from BDO EIP Investment

You might have a UITF (Unit Investment Trust Fund) through BDO EIP (Easy Investment Plan) or you're just planning to get one (that's why you already have an idea perhaps), but the computation of gain/loss from this investment is still foreign to you.  Well, hope this post will shed some light.

First, investment status can be checked through online banking as shown below (just click the photo for a larger view).

Attending Stock Broker's Free Seminar

I had been reading a lot about stocks, stock market, equities trading and investing, still there was a feeling of ambivalence.  I mean, I didn’t know how to start, the application of what I’ve learned.  I know that I should have a model, a plan; but having too much noise, knowing a lot generates disorganized thoughts and hesitations.  That is why I decided to attend free seminar on Introduction to Fundamental and Technical Analysis, offered by one of the online stock brokers in the country.

Part Time Trading on a Shoestring Survival Tools

Trading part time is not an easy thing to do, but with some of the tested ways anyone could nail it without hurting his or her present post.  There are some who leave their job to trade full time.  Though trading full time has benefits, the decision to quit job and trade full time requires a thorough thinking, planning and analysis.  They should be mentally prepared and financially capable as well.  For a trader and breadwinner like me, work is still my sanctuary.  A regular and guaranteed monthly income is crucial especially for settlement of my mortgages, utility bills, and school or tuition fees.  Since stock trading has inherent risks, doing it part time is a prudent thing IMHO.  Here are few must survival kits to do part time trading for a trader who is on a budget like me:

Consider Online Trading Charges When Buying Stocks on a Shoestring

When you buy stocks, the cost includes not only the position (bid price) you agreed to pay but also the accompanying charges.  For instance in online stock trading, an online stockbroker debited you commission (plus Value Added Tax) and SCCP charge on top of the value of stock you purchased.  The sum of it is the cost you see in your portfolio on your stockbroker’s online platform which is compared to market value to show the ratio/percentage of profit/loss.

Saving Money Tools: Prepaid Cards Alternative to Credit Cards

Credit card has many advantages than using cash such as you want to buy an expensive gadget or appliances, and carrying a large amount is not advisable if you are commuting.  Also, credit card is a necessity in today's internet age.  It is widely used in online shopping, airline ticket and hotel booking, movie ticket and seats reservation, purchasing mobile apps and eBooks, Spotify or Netflix subscription, and even Uber.  One cannot enjoy all the features and benefits of the latest products and services offered in today's generation without having a credit card.

Saving Money: Easier Said than Done | 5 Ways on How to Succeed in Saving

Always save, a phrase that has been taught and passed on to us by our parents and grandparents.  We even tried to save using piggy bank when we were a kid.  Not only kids but also some adults until now use piggy bank to save.

People with different status differ as well in saving money.  There are some who save by putting money to "paluwagan" (a money saving and lending scheme popular to average Filipinos), others to bank accounts and time deposits.

Wall Street Book | Why I Left Goldman Sachs by Greg Smith

Originally published by Hachette Book Group in New York, with first international mass market edition on October 2014, and a New York Times Bestseller, this book is a non-fiction, Wall Street story written by Greg Smith, former Goldman Sachs banker.  It's a must-read for those who are interested in Finance, stocks, stock trading, stock market; and who wants to work or just starting their career in investment bank.

Goldman Sachs is "an American multinational investment banking firm that engages in global investment banking, securities, investment management, and other financial services primarily with institutional clients" (Wikipedia).

Philippine Finance Magazines | Forbes Philippines and MoneySense

I remember when I visited my aunt's new house, not only the picturesque architecture and interior design caught my attention but also her wide collection of books and magazines.  By the way, my aunt was a retired World Bank officer.  I used to collect books but not magazine.  Though quite impractical since books are prone to deterioration particularly those cheap paperback books, I'm still not fond reading on tablets and other devices.  It's not that I'm old fashioned but I'm having eye strain from reading on such devices for so long.

I actually imitated my aunt when I started collecting magazines.  Her collections are more about interior design, travel and national geographic.  Mine are finance and business related of course.  Compared to books, it's easy to remove dust from magazines.

Stock Trading for Beginners | Learning about Stocks and Stock Market

Before I proceed, let me just tell you this..

What I'm going to discuss here is not actually the Stock Trading 101.  I'm basically sharing what I've done and how I did to learn and become a stock trader.  I  won't give you the specifics because I believe that I myself has still more to learn.  As I've mentioned, I'm not a finance major.  I as well don't have any experience working as a trader.  It's just pure interest, merely for personal finance.  For those who are just starting to do stock trading, I'm only ahead of you a bit I guess.  Don't underestimate yourselves.  We are now in the age of internet where there is an ease to access various information.  The probability of success in self studying is very high.  It's indeed a matter of determination, strategy and patience.

Stock Trading for Beginners | Introduction

Since I'm an accountancy graduate from a state university and with non-business family background, I find stock trading unfamiliar.  And though I'm connected with a bank, the task I do there is not related to finance, stocks or stock market.  I'm interested in stock trading despite being foreign believing it will provide me extra or more money in which compensation or interest on savings account will not suffice to achieve my financial goals.

I became an investor, stock trader and investment savvy through self study.  And to how, will be gladly shared to you in this site.  But remember, the success of learning and understanding depends on you.  Determination is one of the keys.

2016 New Year's Resolution

During the first Monday of the month of January, the teacher in a class usually asks students to write an essay with a title "My New Year's Resolution" in one whole sheet of paper.  And now me as a no longer student, writing such is hidden somewhere in my journal.  This is actually something I'm not proud of doing since I'm always failing.  But, I never stop.  Starting the year with a goal is better than having none I think.  I won't write all my goals here, instead I will only share one related to financial and that is financial success.  Below is the list of things I need to do in order to achieve it:

Welcome Notes

The exciting part of blogging is telling something about yourself, what's in your heart without expectations.  I mean, not getting frustrated if no one likes my posts as long as I'm able to share or help others in some way.  This is quite different with FB posts wherein you're sharing something to the crowd, and half or majority are not interested.  Here, quite a few might be interested or just curious that's why you're reading this right now.  Anyway, thanks for time spent visiting my site :).
